Look, I’m not going to judge you for scrolling through Amazon and buying gifts for people. But I want to encourage you to see if you can bring a little bit of extra thought into the Gifting season.
Here’s some ideas:

📼 1) Digitize Your Memories 📼

Bring your boxes of slides or VHS tapes to a local service that will turn them into .JPGs and movie files.   It’s like providing your family a trip back in time.

📹 2) Record Your Loved Ones 📹

It can feel awkward in the moment, but you’ll never regret interviewing a parent, grandparent, or child.   Today’s phone’s are good enough to record super high quality footage, so just do it!  (If you’d like detailed tips on how to set up your camera and what to ask, here is my “How To” guide to capturing people at their best.)

🌎 3) Buy Local.  🌎 Or from your online community

Try to break yourself out of the mindset of getting the best deal.  Know that a purchase at a non-chain store has significant positive impact on members of your community struggling to stay in business and provide for their families.

Your gift can be both a present for the recipient AND a vote of support to someone’s creative journey.   

🕰️ 5) Gift Time or Experiences 🕰️

My mom’s favorite gift of recent years was an afternoon in her garage helping her purge long-forgotten piles of stuff.   A massage, dinner or movie night are great gifts that avoid adding any more plastic to the world.  And a hand-made ornament or a coupon for a walk on the beach is priceless in a way a gift card can never be.   

(And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that tuition to my Love Ambassador Summit on Jan. 13-14 would be an INCREDIBLE experience.)
